How To Play Football - Your Online Source for Tips on How To Play Football

If you would like to learn how to play football, or want to teach your children how to play football, you may have come to right place indeed. You will first need to understand the general premise and rules of the game, and these can take a little bit of time to understand. The objective of football, of course, is to score as many points as you can. A field earns 3 points, a touchdown earns 6 points, a safety earns six points, a point after kick is worth 1 point, and a two point conversion is worth, well, two pints. A field goal is a kick made as a fourth down effort from the field. A touchdown is accomplished when a player breaks into the end zone with full possession of the ball, either by running or receiving.

A safety is when the offensive team either loses position of the ball or commits a penalty while in the defensive team’s end zone, points awarded to the owner of the end zone. A point after kick is awarded from the 20 yard line after a touchdown, and is sometimes missed. A two point conversion is achieved when the team who has scored a touchdown opts for an attempt to break the end zone plane on foot again, rather than to kick the point after. Now that we have the scoring in place, let’s learn how to play football.

Both teams will have 11 players on the field at all times during regulation play, and they are all matched up to play against and defend against each other. There are four downs allotted for each 10 yards of offensive play, and these can be earned by passing or running the ball. If the ten yards are earned, then a new set of four downs is awarded. If the offense has not moved the ball ten yards after four downs, the ball is given to the opponent at the spot of the final down. Most teams opt to punt or kick the ball after a failed third down attempt, as this will make it harder for the opposing team to score.

When teaching someone how to play football, they will need to understand what is safe and what is not safe for both themselves and the other players. Tackling is supposed to happen below the neck and above the knees. Hit to the head, pulling of the facemask, and chop blocks to the lower legs can all cause serious injury. It does no good to know how to play football if you are not prepared to be responsible and show good sportsmanship and judgment. Good luck, and have a blast!
